Daniel Lloyd will hope to rebound from a tough – and expensive – end to the weekend at Croft when the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship heads to Knockhill for the seventh round of the campaign.
Huddersfield-racer Daniel looked set for his strongest showing of the campaign so far on home soil two weeks ago after he powered his Restart Racing-run Hyundai i30 Fastback N through to the Quick Six in qualifying for the first time.
Although he then went on to bag victory in the Independents’ class in the opening race, engine issues would hamper his chances in race two and forced him to sit out race three completely.
Despite that, Daniel remains well placed in the Independents’ standings as he makes the trip to Scotland, sitting third in the points and just 22 points away from top spot.
Knockhill was a strong circuit for Daniel during his last BTCC campaign back in 2023, scoring a season-high fifth place and bringing his car home inside the top ten in all three races.
Given the pace of the Hyundai package this season – and the fact that the model is a proven winner at Knockhill in the past – Daniel goes into the latest three races of the campaign optimistic about his chances on track with his engine having been fully repaired ready for the trip to Scotland.
The bill for that repair work however came to more than £20,000, resulting in partners Bonkers Competition launching a special BTCC raffle to help cover some of the costs.
Full details on the draw can be found below.
“The engine issue we had meant the results weren’t what I was hoping for at Croft, but there were still positives to take away from the weekend, having made it into the Quick Six and then picking up a fourth Independents’ win of the season,” he said.
“The team has worked with our engine builder since then to make sure the issues have been fully resolved, although the cost of the repair has been a big hit to the budget at this stage of the season.
“JLC Group has stepped up to provide extra support to cover some of the costs, and the special raffle alongside Bonkers Competitions has already generated a lot of interest from people who hope to win the package of prizes that I’ve put together – and every entry will help with the repair bill.
“With the repaired engine, I’m going into the weekend at Knockhill feeling quietly confident as the Hyundai should go well around the circuit. There’s no reason why we can’t hope to try and fight for Q3, and then push for some strong results in the races to strengthen our challenge for the Independents’ title.
“On a personal level, it was sad to see the news last week about my former team Power Maxed Racing and the devastating fire that they suffered, but it’s fantastic to see the paddock pull together to allow them to be on the grid again this weekend.”
