Daniel Lloyd was able to extend his run of points scoring finishes in the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship with another strong weekend on track at Thuxton allowing him creep up the championship standings.
Huddersfield-racer Daniel made the trip to the fastest circuit on the calendar looking to add to his tally of top ten finishes at the wheel of his EXCELR8 Motorsport-run Hyundai i30 N Fastback. The weekend started well with Daniel showing strong pace during free practice, with the #123 Hyundai setting the fifth quickest time in the second session – just three tenths of a second off the pace. That left Daniel confident going into qualifying but a challenging session would see him lining up in 13th place on the grid for the opening race.Undeterred, Daniel went into race day keen to try and fight his way forwards into the top ten and a storming opening lap when the lights went out in race one saw him rocket up to eighth place.Displaying strong pace throughout, Daniel would bring the car home in eighth to lead the EXCELR8 challenge and he then came close to matching the result in race two, where he picked up ninth spot. Just missing out on the reverse grid for race three, Daniel concluded his weekend with another solid top ten finish as he crossed the line in seventh. It marked only the third time in his BTCC career that Daniel has scored three top ten finishes in a single weekend, whilst his run of consecutive points scoring results now stands at 18 – the second highest tally amongst the 29 drivers on the grid this season. He has also now moved up to eighth in the championship standings with three of the ten race meetings run.
“We’re still searching for the ultimate pace in the car so in that respect it’s been another challenging weekend,” he said. “However, at the same time, I’m really pleased that we have been able to recover from a tough qualifying session to score three top nine results.”The fact we have also moved up in the standings is a big bonus and it’s a huge positive to be scoring these kind of results at a time when we know we don’t quite have the car in the sweet spot. That leaves me confident that when things come good, it’s going to be really good and we’ll find ourselves fighting right at the front of the pack.”Yet again this weekend, we benefitted from some good coverage on the TV to promote my sponsors like 247 Blinds and Abracs, and I’m looking forward to doing the same at Oulton Park in a few weeks, which is going to be one of busiest weekends of the season.
“There is still the opportunity for new partners to get involved this year and with the improvements we are making to the car, I’m excited about what I can achieve over the remainder of 2022.”Daniel’s behind the scenes look at the Thruxton weekend will air on his DLR TV Youtube channel later this week.
