Daniel Lloyd will look to strengthen his quest to secure the Independents’ title when the Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship heads back to Donington Park this weekend for the eighth round of the season.
Hudderfield racer Daniel currently sits third in the Independents’ standings at the wheel of his Hyundai i30 Fastback N following a hat-trick of class podium finishes at Knockhill two weeks ago.
That moved Daniel on to twelve top three finishes from 21 starts this season, with his performances also allowing the Restart Racing team to secure a healthy lead in the Independents’ Team Trophy.
As well as seeking to close the gap in the class standings, Daniel returns to Donington Park looking to also move closer to the top ten overall at a circuit where he came agonisingly close to a stunning race win on his last appearance on the full Grand Prix layout back in 2003.
Having been drawn on reverse grid pole for the weekend finale, Daniel led the majority of the race at the wheel of a Cupra Leon before the driveshaft on his car let go on the very last lap, forcing him into a heartbreaking retirement.
This time around, he will hope to benefit from the fact that the Hyundai has been a proven race winner at Donington Park in the past, with his focus firmly on trying to fight for his best results of the season to date.
“The Donington Park GP layout is a fantastic circuit for touring car racing, even if my last outing back in 2023 didn’t provide the best of memories!” he said. “Returning this time around however, I’m feeling confident that we can be in contention for strong results and there is no reason why we can’t hope to be fighting in the top ten across the weekend.
“Although we’ve had a few tricky weekends since the summer break after engine dramas at Croft and then being out of position in qualifying at Knockhill, we’re heading into three rounds now where we know the Hyundai will be strong and where I personally have enjoyed some strong results in the past.
“I’m also delighted that Marc Webb Building Ltd, who I’ve worked with for a number of years, will be on my sun visor strip this weekend, so it would be particularly pleasing if I could have a strong weekend to thank them for their support. It’s still all to play for the Independents’ championship, so it’s vital that I try and score as many points as possible to maintain my title challenge.”
Qualifying this weekend is scheduled to take place at 15:25 on Saturday and will air live on YouTube, with Sunday’s three races featuring on ITV4 at 11:30, 14:15 and 16:55.
