Huddersfield’s Daniel Lloyd heads South West this coming weekend looking to defend his 99 point TCR UK Championship lead this coming weekend as the series reconvenes at Castle Combe circuit in Wiltshire (July 14/15).

Lloyd arrives at 1.85mile circuit in winning form having taking 6 wins from 6 races so far this season in the TCR UK Championship, and most recently celebrating his maiden BTCC race win at his home circuit, Croft, just three weeks ago.

This coming weekend marks the pivotal mid-way point of the season for the Yorkshireman, who also welcomes new backers ABRACS to the grid for the first time.

“I can’t wait to get back in the car this weekend;” commented Lloyd. “It’s been a mega season so far on track and feels like an age since we were last out at Brands Hatch.

“Our struggles away from the track finding sponsorship have been well documented;” he added. “As a direct result of the fantastic local support we had from the press we managed to secure additional funding from ABRACS to continue the rest of the season. This weekend will be their first TCR UK meeting with us so I’m hoping I can repay their faith in me with another clean sweep!”

Lloyd’s dominating success in the series to date has helped to extend his Championship lead, along with his Swedish team WestCoast Racing which currently has a 240 point lead atop of the Teams’ Standings. However, this success comes at a cost, and as a result the #23 VW Golf GTI will be carrying an additional 60kg of compensation weight on-board this weekend.

“We’re in good shape heading to Castle Combe;” continued Lloyd. “The team have done an amazing job with the car and we’re all clear on what we need to do to stay ahead in the championship. 60kg is a huge amount of extra to be carrying though. It means that we’re 50kg heavier than our nearest competitor this weekend, so it’s not going to be a walk in the park.

“It may look easy on the TV, but we’re working hard for these wins and I’m certainly not taking any of them for granted.”

Rounds 7 and 8 of the TCR UK series take place on Castle Combe Race Circuit, Wiltshire on July 14/15. Saturday July 14th plays host to two free practice sessions at 09.45 and 12.20 before heading into the 30 minute qualifying session at 15.20 – 15.50.
