Daniel Lloyd heads to Belgium this coming weekend, as the TCR Europe Series blasts back into action on the iconic Spa-Francorchamps circuit (June 8/9).
The 27 year-old arrives at the GP track in winning form, straight off the back of a dominant double-race-winning performance in the TCR China series. Joining the Slovakian-based Brutal Fish Racing Team for the second time, Lloyd is hoping to carry momentum into his European campaign following a challenging debut in Hockenheim.
“I can’t wait to get back to Spa this weekend;” commented Lloyd. “We didn’t get off to the best start in Germany, so I’m hoping to have a bit more luck on my side this time out.
“I’ve raced at Spa a few times over the years, but never in a touring car. I’m really interested to see how it plays out with this grid. It’s a very long lap and times are really close on the TCR Europe package so a strong qualifying result will be vital.”
Lloyd faces fierce competition on the notoriously unforgiving circuit, with a packed grid of 34 cars confirmed for rounds 5 and 6. The #123 Honda Civic Type R TCR machine is also 20kg lighter; having dropped the late-entry ballast the Yorkshireman was forced to carry at the Hockenheimring.
“I’m feeling confident;” added Lloyd. “It’s a very competitive line-up in Spa, but we showed that we had the pace in Hockenheim. We were just very unlucky. We’re lighter this time out as well, which should make a big difference here.
“I’m aiming for the podium this weekend. There’s no reason why that can’t happen. All the pieces are there, we just need a clean run.”
Saturday, 8th June plays hosts to qualifying for rounds 5 & 6, scheduled for 09.30 and 10.05 local time (CET), ahead of race 1 at 13.50, with race 2 scheduled for at 12.00 on Sunday, 9th June.
