Daniel Lloyd will hope to maintain his solid start to the 2022 Kwik Fit British Touring Car Championship this weekend when the series heads for Thruxton for the third meeting of the campaign.
Huddersfield-racer Daniel makes the long trip to the Hampshire circuit – the fastest on the BTCC calendar – seeking to maintain his 100 per cent scoring record after he secured a brace of top ten results last time out at Brands Hatch.
That means Daniel has scored top ten finishes in four of the six races run so far – despite having been forced to deal with damper and hybrid failures – to sit in a solid tenth place in the championship standings.
With the 2022 season marking only the second time that Daniel has contested a full season in Britain’s premier racing series, he will be appearing at Thruxton in a BTCC car for only the fourth time – with an outing in 2016 being followed by two visits last year.
With the benefit of two race weekends now under his belt in the EXCELR8 Motorsport Hyundai i30 Fastback N – and vital experience of running the new hybrid system – Daniel will seek to try and at least match his previous Thruxton best of fifth spot, and will also hope to extend his run of consecutive points finishes.
That run currently stands at a career high of 15, eleven of which have seen Daniel inside the top ten.
Daniel will be cheered on trackside this weekend by guests from sponsor Propack, which will entertain a number of clients at the circuits with VIP hospitality passes that include the chance to go onto the grid ahead of a race, and to tour the team garage.
“Overall I’m feeling good as we prepare to head for Thruxton this weekend,” he said. “Although luck hasn’t really been on my side so far this season, there have been a lot of positives to take away from the opening two rounds.
“We’re not far away from hitting the sweet spot with the car, and I know that we have a package that is capable of being at the sharp end of the grid. We were able to get some decent laps in during the test [at Thruxton] last month, and I’ve spoken at length with my engineer this week already about our plan for the weekend.
“We’re hoping to hit the ground running in FP1 and give ourselves a good starting point that we can then build on through Saturday and into race day. I’m eager to get back behind the wheel and have a real go at pushing for some front-running results.”
