Daniel Lloyd has his sights firmly fixed on an improved qualifying performance when he returns to Donington Park this weekend for the sixth meeting of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB season.
Huddersfield racer Daniel has showed impressive race pace at the wheel of his Toro Verde GT-run car in recent events, and will head to Donington on the back of six top ten finishes in the last seven races.
Daniel’s bid to challenge for the podium in the fastest one-make series in the UK has however been hampered in recent events by qualifying, with mixed weather conditions at Croft and then a brake issue at Knockhill leaving him lower down the grid than expected.
Although he was able to recover to pick up some solid on-track results, Daniel’s race pace showed he was more than capable of running towards the sharp end of the field, with his goal heading into the weekend being to fight for his best results of the year to date.
Daniel will also be looking to put the memory of last season’s meeting on the full Donington Park GP layout – when he was competing in the BTCC – firmly behind him.
On what would prove to be a weekend of vastly conflicting emotions, Daniel produced arguably his most competitive showing of the year and looked set for victory when he led most of the final race, only to suffer drive shaft failure on the final lap that saw him forced to retire.
“The Donington Park GP layout is one I’ve been really looking forward to in the Porsche, and I’m heading into the weekend in a really positive frame of mind,” he said. “Although recent results haven’t been what I was hoping for since racing resumed after the summer break, I know it has been down to the fact that qualifying hasn’t gone to plan.
“When the field is as close as it is, grid position is critical with Knockhill being the perfect example. We were less than half a second away from pole position but were back in 17th place, which then made the races difficult.
“Nailing qualifying has to be the main focus this weekend because if we can get ourselves well inside the top ten on the grid, then it will set us up to challenge for some strong results.
“Considering what happened on the GP layout last season in the BTCC, it would be fantastic if I was able to to bring home some silverware this time around and I’ll be giving my all to make that possible.”
