Daniel Lloyd will kick off a new era in his racing career this weekend when the 2024 Porsche Carrera Cup GB season bursts into life at Donington Park.

The opening two races of the new season will mark Daniel’s return to the fastest one-make series for the first time since 2016, when he competed in race meetings at both Silverstone and Brands Hatch.

Huddersfield racer Daniel had previously raced in the series in both 2012 and 2013 having been named as winner of the Porsche Carrera Cup GB Scholarship, scoring two race wins and 14 podiums, and securing a best championship finish of fourth.

The decision to return to sportscar competition for the new campaign sees Daniel join forces with the Toro Verde GT team and will see him at the wheel of a Type 992 Porsche 911 GT3 Cup – the most powerful car to have been used in the series since it was launched back in 2003.

Recent weeks have seen Daniel out on track alongside his rivals for official tests at both Donington Park and Brands Hatch, although changeable weather conditions mean the lap times seen across the field will count for little when the real action gets underway.

Given the limited dry running available, Daniel heads into round one being realistic in his targets, with two solid points finishes being the first target of the year.

“I’m really excited to get the season underway, and am looking forward to the opportunity to race the Type 992 Porsche for the first time,” he said. “Given I’ve been racing a front-wheel drive touring car for quite a few years now, I was hoping we’d be able to get some decent pre-season running under our belt, but the weather has been against us and we’ve only really managed to get a single day in dry conditions.

“That means there are still things that I’m learning about the car, and I think it’s important that I stay realistic going into the opening weekend. Of course I want to be fighting for silverware and a place on the podium like everyone else, but the important thing is to try and challenge for two solid points finishes to get our championship campaign underway.

“There are also going to be quite a lot of people coming along to support me this weekend, so two good results would also give them reason to cheer!”

Guests from primary partners Develop and First Locate are amongst those heading to Donington Park this weekend, alongside Future Flooring, Green View Projects and Marc Webb Builders. A number of members of the Daniel Lloyd Racing Members Club will also be in attendance.
