Reigning TCR UK Champion Daniel Lloyd will contest the TCR China Championship this season after penning a deal to race with the Dongfeng Honda Racing Team, operated by championship-winning squad MacPro Racing Team.
Lloyd makes his TCR China debut this coming weekend, piloting one of the squad’s Honda Civic Type R TCR machines alongside new team-mate Martin Xie as the five-meeting championship gets underway on the Zhuhai International Circuit.
The Yorkshireman last raced on the Guangdong Province circuit in 2017, where he claimed a maiden podium on his CTCC debut with a second-placed finish, and is relishing the chance of returning to racing in Asia.
“I’m delighted to heading back to China;” commented TCR UK Champion Lloyd. “I have really happy memories of racing in the CTCC and GT Asia Series.”
“It’s been a long winter;” added the 27-year-old. “I’ve been working hard on pulling the right deal together after winning the TCR UK Championship last year, so it’s great to be able to finally announce my plans.
“The Dongfeng Honda Racing Team have a great set-up, and are championship winners so I’m looking forward to seeing what we can do together this season. I’ve raced at 4 of the 5 circuits on the calendar before, so I’m familiar with most of the tracks. Hopefully this will put me in good stead.
“TCR has been a great championship for me, and led to lots of new opportunities. Fingers crossed, this deal will lead to even more doors opening up in some of the other TCR series around the world.”
The TCR China Championship season opener takes place on May 3/4 on the Zhuhai International Circuit, in the Guangdong Province of China. Qualifying for both opening races takes place at 11.10 and 11.35 local time on Saturday 3rd May, before the first race at 15.10, with the race 2 scheduled for 11.15 on Sunday 4th May.
