Huddersfield-based racing driver Daniel Lloyd will be celebrating Christmas differently this year as he completes a gruelling 21km run across the Yorkshire moors to raise money for local Huddersfield charity, the Forget Me Not Children’s hospice.

This will be the third half-marathon that Daniel has competed in on behalf of the hospice, of which he has been a long-standing ambassador, and the 27-year-old who races in Europe and China is hoping to raise vital funds to help the charity which supports children with life-shortening conditions and their families.

“This year on Christmas Day, I’ve decided to do something different and to give something back. I’ve supported the Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice for years and I hope that we can raise plenty of money for them.

“I’ll be running from the Moors near Marsden, over to Waterloo in Huddersfield where my parents live to complete the full 21km route. It’ll be the toughest half-marathon I’ve done yet, over the tops, but once I’ve finished I’ll be straight back to my folks’ for my Christmas dinner. I’m just praying that it doesn’t snow!

“I managed to finish the Leeds half in the top 4% of 8,000 finishers last time, but to be honest, I’ll be happy to just complete this one! I’m nowhere near as fit as I was back then but I have started my training. I think the hardest part will be giving up beer on Christmas Eve! That sacrifice alone deserves a donation!”

Gemma Redford, Regional Fundraiser for Calderdale added; “All of us here at Forget Me Not would like to wish Daniel the very best of luck with his half marathon on Christmas day. The hospice opens 365 days a year and seeing one of our supporters go that extra mile by giving up such a special day to make a difference to our families means a great deal.”

The Forget Me Not Children’s Hospice needs to raise around £4 million each year and with just 4% of that coming from the government, for the remainder they rely on the goodwill of individuals and organisations who want to make a difference to local children and families.

Please help Daniel to raise much-needed funds for this wonderful charity.
