Daniel Lloyd returns to the internationally renowned Autodromo Nazionale di Monza circuit this week for the series’ third double-header meeting of the 2020 season aiming to maintain his lead at the top the TCR Europe Championship standings (September 26-27). The Yorkshireman arrives in Italy with a nine-point championship lead having claimed victory in the season-opening race at Paul Ricard last month, followed by a third-place podium at Zolder during rounds 3 and 4 of the twelve-round competition. Although not best-suited to Monza’s long, fast, straights, Lloyd’s Brutal Fish Racing Honda Civic Type R is free of the 60kg of championship ballast that it carried last time out in Belgium. Lloyd and The Brutal Fish Racing Team have a successful history on the iconic Italian circuit. Having taken pole and podium there earlier this year during the Monza 12hour race, the ABRACS-backed racer also piloted the #123 Civic to the podium during the 2019 TCR Europe season finale. “I’m looking forward to returning to race at Monza again this weekend;” commented Lloyd. “It’s great to be weight-free again. We know that the Honda isn’t the quickest with straight-line speed, so that’s going to help our cause massively. “Knowing how strong the Hyundai is around there, I’m expecting a tough weekend. We just need to make sure that we maximise every opportunity to score points and keep our championship challenge on track. “Although, we have had some good results here in the Honda as well;” he added. “We took pole and a podium on our Monza 12hour debut in July and a podium here in the last race of the season last year. Another podium this weekend would be a great result, but we’ll just have to see how things pan out.” Following Friday’s (September 25) free practice runs, Saturday (September 26) hosts the all-important qualifying session at 11.25 – 12.00 local time (10.25 – 11.00 UK time) ahead of the opening 10 lap race at 17.15 local time (16.15 UK time), with Race 2 scheduled for 12.50 local time (11.50 UK time) on Sunday (September 27). |
