Daniel Lloyd has his sights set on the TCR Europe title this year, after penning a deal to re-join Slovakia-based outfit Brutal Fish Racing for his first full season campaign.
The 27-year-old enjoyed a superb debut in the seven-meeting series last year. Missing the opening two rounds of the 2019 season, Lloyd went on to claim the team’s first-ever TCR Europe podium at the world-famous Red Bull Racing in Austria.
After claiming his maiden victory in Germany, Lloyd ended the part-season on a superb high. Securing his 2nd race win with a brilliant lights-to-flag performance in Barcelona, he notched up three further podium finishes in the squad’s JAS Motorsport-prepared Honda Civic Type R, making him one of only three drivers to win multiple races in the 2019 season.
Having kicked-off his racing season in Kuala Lumpur last month with a stunning double podium for the team, Lloyd currently leads the TCR Malaysia Championship.
“I’m absolutely over the moon to have re-signed with Brutal Fish Racing;” commented Lloyd. “This is the earliest that I’ve ever been able to confirm my plans for the season ahead, and I couldn’t be happier.
“We had an outstanding debut season in the TCR Europe last year. It’s one of the toughest championships out there, with world-class drivers and we showed that we can mix it up with the best of them. We ended the year on a high with 2 wins and 4 podiums from the last three meetings, and we can now carry that winning momentum into this year’s campaign.
“Continuity is such an important piece of the puzzle. I’ve only once before been able to secure a drive with the same team and in the same car for two consecutive seasons. I’m incredibly grateful to Martin Ryba for the opportunity to race with the team again this year. We’ve become close friends over the last season and I’m really looking forward to being part of his team again!
“After winning the TCR UK title in 2018, this was always my aim. We laid the foundations last year and learnt so much along the way, but we are 100% ready to make the step-up to be title challengers. The overall title has to be our target now. I feel that we have the team, car and experience to make it happen this year.”
Lloyd’s rise through the motorsport ranks over the years has culminated in his European campaign. With long-term backers helping to keep his championship challenges on track, Lloyd’s recent success has also opened up new partnership opportunities for businesses and brands.
“I’ve been very fortunate over the years to have had great support from a number of companies;” explained Lloyd. “Our move into Europe means that we have much more to offer sponsors with amazing Global exposure to a growing audience. That includes TV and also live streaming at all race events across Europe, first-class hospitality and entertainment facilities in the UK and abroad as well as corporate track days in both the UK and Europe.
“I’m still looking for new sponsors to join us for this season who can reap the benefits of a high-profile European campaign, if any companies have an interest please get in touch.”
The 2020 TCR Europe season gets underway on the legendary Spa Francorchamps circuit in Belgium on May 1/2.
