Daniel Lloyd has his eyes firmly set on the prize as the TCR Europe series crosses over into the second half of the season at the Circuit De Barcelona Catalunya this coming weekend (October 10-11). Having claimed victory in the opening round and a further two podiums so far this season, the Brutal Fish Racing Team driver arrives in Spain in confident form with a 32-point lead at the top of the championship standings. Huddersfield-based Lloyd faces a tough task on the 4.655km Grand Prix circuit, with the #123 Honda Civic Type R carrying the maximum ballast of 60kg on-board having set a qualifying time just 3 hundredths off pole last time out in Monza. However, with an excellent track record on the Spanish track where he took his second TCR Europe victory last year, the Yorkshireman has high hopes for a strong performance to keep his championship campaign on track. “I’m looking forward to racing at Barcelona again this weekend;” commented Lloyd. “I have some great memories from there last season, taking our second back-to-back win in the Honda. We have a bit of a handicap again with the 60kg of ballast back, but if we can carry the momentum that we’ve shown so far this season into the weekend, I’m confident that we can collect another decent haul of points. “We experienced some bad luck last time out at Monza, being taken out of the last race. So I’m looking to put that right. We need to finish consistently in the points to keep our title hopes alive. That’s the plan for Barcelona. “We’re entering the business end of the season now, so we need to keep the pressure on and make sure that we bank the maximum points that we can in each race to stay at the top of the standings.” Following Friday’s (October 9) free practice runs, Saturday (October 10) hosts the all-important qualifying session at 11.45 – 12.20 local time (10.45 – 11.20 UK time) ahead of the opening 12 lap race at 16.05 local time (15.05 UK time). Sunday (October 11) is scheduled to host Race 2 at 13.55 local time (12.55 UK time). |
