| Daniel Lloyd heads to Belgium this week looking to add to his points tally as the TCR Europe series reconvenes at Circuit Zolder for the second meeting of the 2020 season (12-13 September). Taking the opening race victory at Paul Ricard last month for the Brutal Fish Racing squad, Lloyd arrives in Belgium at the top of the championship standings, with just a single point lead over his nearest rival. However, with his qualifying position and lap-time in France pitching him close to the pole lap set, Lloyd will carry the maximum success ballast of 60kg into the weekend events. “We had a brilliant start to our 2020 campaign, taking the first race win of the season and leading the Championship, but this weekend is going to be far more of a strategic drive for us;” commented Lloyd. “The changes to the balance of performance for this year have meant that due to our pace at Paul Ricard we’re in the top tier for ballast in Belgium and will have to contend with a massive 60kg of lead for qualifying and both races. Carrying such a huge amount of weight will have a big impact on our pace. “With our eye on the Championship, this weekend will be all about banking as many points as possible and playing the long game. If we can secure two top-ten finishes at Zolder, and then pick up the pace again at Monza then I’ll be very happy.” Having only raced on the historical Belgian circuit once before – six years ago – Lloyd faces fierce competition from the international grid, with a total of 22 competitors expected to line-up for rounds 3 and 4 on the 4km technical and undulating track. Following Friday’s (September 11) free practice runs, Saturday (September 12) hosts the all-important qualifying session at 11.10 – 11.45 local time (10.10 – 10.45 UK time) ahead of the opening 14 lap race at 15.30 local time (14.30 UK time), with Race 2 scheduled for 15.20 local time (14.20 UK time) on Sunday (September 13). |
