Daniel Lloyd will return to GT racing for the first time since 2015 after penning a deal to race the Hankook Dubai 24H with the German team, Herberth Motorpsort, on January 14-16.

28-year-old Lloyd will split driving duties with team-mates, Antares Au, Ian Loggie and Steffen Goerig in the squad’s third Porsche 911 GT3 R (991), competing in the AM class of the round-the-clock challenge. The Bavarian-based outfit has an excellent track record in the world-renowned 24-hour series — finishing second in this year’s championship standings.

The move marks a homecoming back to the Yorkshireman’s roots — who was awarded the iconic Porsche marque’s scholarship drive both in 2012 and 2013 — and will be the first time that he’s been behind the wheel of a GT car since clinching the GT Asia Championship title with the Craft-Bamboo Racing team back in 2015.

“I’m really fired-up for this event;” commented Lloyd. “It’s been a really tough season for obvious reasons this year, so to already have something lined up for January is a great result.

“I’m still working hard on securing a drive in the touring car world for 2021, but I’m also incredibly excited for the opportunity to race with the Herberth Motorsport team. They’re a very professional outfit, with an excellent track record, so it’s a real privilege to race for them.

“I’ve been racing in front-wheel-drive cars for the past five years, so for sure; it will be a challenge jumping back into the GT3. I’ve already started my training and preparations to make sure that I can hit the ground running.

“One of my strengths is being able to adapt to a new car quickly, and I’m looking forward to working with my engineer from when I raced the Aston Martin in the GT Asia cup again.”

Lloyd will be the lead driver in the #93 machine, completing around eight-hours of driving across the event at the illustrious UAE Dubai Autodrome on January 14-16, 2021.
